The Magical Egg by Phyllis

Kleine Lille was playing in the fallen leaves with Kleine Puki when she spied something on the ground. "Look, Puki! It looks like an Easter egg!"

She picked it up and was startled when it moved.

"Here, Puki, would you like to hold it?"
"Yuck!" exclaimed Puki. "I don't like weird things. I'm going home."

Lille took the egg home and sang lullabies to it. "I wonder what kind of bird is inside?" she thought.

That night, she cradled the egg in her arms as she slept. She dreamed of beautiful birds.

In the morning, when she awakened, the egg was rocking back and forth, so she sang another lullaby. She saw it begin to crack...

Then a small claw poked out of the crack. "I have never seen a bird foot like that!" Lille whispered. "Whatever can be in that egg?"

Out crawled a pink dragon! "Are you my mommy?" it asked. "I love you! And I'm very hungry."

Before the little dragon got any ideas about eating young maidens, Lille fed her some animal crackers.

After munching through three boxes, the little dragon had grown into a big dragon!
Giving a huge burp, the dragon announced that her name was Ruby and that she would be Lille's friend forever. Lille gave her a kiss on her nose and both she and Ruby blushed with pleasure.
And they were true friends FOREVER!
