Parading around by Stephanie
I love a parade, doesn't everyone? Holidays always bring parades to cities around the world. Floats, antique cars, bands, and fire engines can be found in nearly every parade. Let's listen in as two special firefighters plan for their big day.

Fire Chief Fina asked Captain Namor, "Is everything double-checked and stocked on our rig for the big parade?"

Yes, Chief, I have done the whole checklist. We are ready to roll," Namor said proudly.

"Wait, I see a little girl and she is all alone and seems to be lost" said Fina.

"How can you tell, Chief"?

"Well, she has "lost", written all over her," Fina noted. "She just keeps saying, "Himmie." I wonder if that is her name, Fina pondered.

"I will get on my radio to dispatch and give them her description and we will try to locate her family," Namor replied.

"But the parade is about to start," replied Fina.

"Yes Chief, I think the little girl should ride with us where she will be safe and maybe someone will recognize her along the parade route."

"That's a great plan, Captain Namor. Give her our special fire bear to hold, so she will not be scared."

"Copy." Namor relayed over his radio.

"Look at our dog, Smokey. He is up on the hose bed, looking for her family too, Chief Fina. Dot Com must still be in the cab" Namor grinned.

"But he doesn't know what they look like, he probably thinks they have spots and a tail like he has," Fina laughed.

"How exciting, we have just been presented with the blue ribbon for how clean our fire engine looks".

"That is very good news for our department," Fina replied, "but what would make me most happy is to find this little one's family".

"Have no fear, Chief we WILL locate them," said Namor.

"Namor, strap the child securely on the truck. We gotta to roll. It's parade time," Commanded Fina.

"Yes Chief, I did that".

"Thank You, Namor. I have to say, I have been very impressed with your conduct and efficiency today. When your former employer, "The Atlantis Fire Department," sent me your resume I did not think I would hire you."

"Why is that Chief Fina?"

"Your popularity with the ladies and the fact that you started more fires than you put out, were two of my concerns. The distinct way you laid hose was well documented as well," Chief Fina replied with eyebrows raised. "However, after receiving a glowing letter of recommendation from Princess Mera's father, King Crawdad, the Mayor of Atlantis, I changed my mind. On your behalf he wrote that you were a very hard worker and excellent firefighter, although he added that fires were quite rare in Atlantis."

"Well, fire and water do not mix," Namor said rolling his eyes.

"The King suggested strongly that your horizons should be broadened somewhere else, FAR from Atlantis. So, I decided our department would give you a chance".

"I promise I will not let you down" Namor stated with great conviction.

"I see many people waving, Chief, but none that seem to know this lost urchin," uttered Namor.

"Yes, I am getting quite worried. There is no news from dispatch about her yet either. She still seems quite content; no smiles, but she's not crying." Fina replied.

"ILVI," shouted two blonde girl's in the crowd, "We are so glad to find you, little sister. Mom would have grounded us FOREVER, if we lost you. Come with us, sweetie."

"No way," said Ilvi, "I is staying with my new friends. They got two dogs and they is much more more fun than you... Thelma and Louise! You always make me walk behind you and tell me I's a baby. Well, I am a big girl now and very important. I am in a parade too. So there!"

"Wow, so Ilvi is her name and she sure can TALK," the Captain stated. "Girl's, the parade is almost over. Meet us at the end of the next block with your parents and Ilvi can go with you," Fina shouted over the noise of the siren.

"But I do not want to weave you, Namores and Sina," Ilvi cried.

"First of all, honey, that's FINA, not Sina," the chief gently corrected (bringing to mind her own brown-eyed sister, she hadn't seen since 2004, that's another story). "You have to go back to your family, they love and miss you. You take your fire helmet with you.

"Have your family bring you to visit us anytime at our Firehouse" chimed the two firefighters. "OK's." replied Ilvi, but her face was so sad and it hurt Fina and Namor's hearts to see her go.

"Well, it sure has been a grand parade. We found Ilvi's family and made our city and station proud. Our dogs, Smokey and Dot Com, did a good job too, let's give them a hug.", said Fina.

"I sure wish I could give you a hug Fina," lamented Namor.

"I think that would be a VERY bad career move, Captain and I HIGHLY advise against it. Your charms are wasted on me," Fina said with an indignant tone to her voice."

"Maybe Mera will take me back," Namor, whispered out of earshot. "I always loved her face.
