The fairy who did not believe in children by Lori
Once there was a little fairy named Lunna who didn’t believe that children existed. The wood nymphs laughed at her. “Of course children are real silly, although we have never actually seen one” they said. “Well then, you can’t know for sure” said Lunna. “Go ask the garden fairy” said one nymph. “I think she has seen one.”

Lunna eagerly went to the wise garden fairy who had seen many things in her time. “Wise garden fairy, is it true that children are real?” she asked. “Well”, said the fairy, “I thought I saw one once. It was a strange looking creature with odd clothes and fat feet. I believe it was a child but I was too scared to ask and I flew right home.” “Well then, you can’t know for sure” said Lunna, and stubbornly insisted that she still did not believe in children.

Her sister Tana who was tending to her fairy bear overheard and scolded Lunna. “Stop being so stubborn”, she said. “Even my little fairy bear believes in children, don’t you sweetie?” The fairy bear nodded her head in agreement. “I’m not stubborn” cried Lunna as she stamped her foot and fluttered her wings. “I just don’t believe in children.”

One day Lunna went flying just a little too far from the garden. She knew she wasn’t supposed to go that far, but she was very, very curious. She landed on a large tree and looked around.

She saw a white table with 2 chairs. Then she saw a blanket on the grass with something large lying on it. “What could that be?” wondered Lunna. She went closer.

This big thing had giant feet, no wings and was wearing strange clothes. It moved, so Lunna knew it was alive. It stood up, turned around and was staring right at Lunna. She was too afraid to fly away, and also too curious! “Oh My” said the thing. You look like a fairy. But fairies are not real so I must be dreaming”. “I am a fairy and I’m real”, protested Lunna “ but what are you?” “I’m a child” she said. “My name is Lihle.” “You can’t be a child, they are just pretend” exclaimed Lunna. “I’m just as real as you are” said Lihle. “May I touch your wings?” “Yes, you can”, said Lunna. “Your not so scary after all.”

Soon Lunna and Lihle were both convinced that the other was real. Lihle invited Lunna for tea and cookies. The tea cup was too big for Lunna so Lihle found a thimble that was perfect for her. They had a lovely afternoon chatting about what it’s like in fairyland and what it’s like in the human world.

Then it was time for Lunna to fly home. “Good bye Lihle, I will tell my friends all about you” said Lunna. “Good bye Lunna, I am so glad to have met you, but I’m afraid my friends will never believe me if I tell them about you” Lihle said sadly.

As she flew off you could hear Lunna saying “I do believe in children, I do believe in children.”
